Isa 41:11-13    “Behold, all those who were incensed against you shall be ashamed and disgraced; they shall be as nothing, and those who strive with you shall perish.   You shall seek them and not find them– those who contended with you. Those who war against you shall be as nothing, as a nonexistent thing.
For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’
Maintain a Biblical FocusAs the military war and the media war rages on,  I felt the Holy Spirit prompting me to encourage all of our readers to resist the influence of the left wing humanistic media and to maintain a Bibilcal focus. We are being bombarded from all sides  – even in some churches –  it is a war, so please be aware and look to the Bible for the truth.

Shalom to the faithful warriors of God   …………  the Israel / Hamas war in now in its 3rd week  –  lets hope & pray that it ends very soon !!!

The Bible passage that our pastor focused on yesterday was 2 Chronicles 26.   Uzziah was only 16 when he became the king – his name means My Strength is from Yah ( God ).  In verse  6  we read that God sent Uzziah & the army of Israel to make war against the Philistines and to live among them.   As much as Ashdod and  Ashkelon are legitimate Israeli cities, so is Gaza.  As impossible as it seems in todays political environment, I believe it is Gods will that the entire Gaza strip be a part of Israel.  And if God wants it to be, one day it will be, and most probably, it will come at great cost.   God’s ways are much different to our ways and we need to be very careful to keep in sync with Him and not to allow our focus to be compromised by the Greek thinking ways of the world.  If you have a concordance please take a look at all of the references to Gaza.  I found more than 20.

Father I pray for all of our dear brothers and sisters in the nations, that you will fill everyone with a fresh and increased love and zeal for You and for Your Word and for Your Land.  Holy Spirit, please help all of us to keep a Biblical focus on this and every situation,  and to stay in line with your plans and purposes for Israel.  Help us to stand strong on Your word in the face of intense pressure from the kingdom of darkness.   Thank you for the privilege of being Your ambassadors ( 2 Cor 5:20 ) and help us to be good ambassadors for Israel and Your Kingdom at this time  ………….

Update on the IDF positionOnce again there is a lack of agreement between the government and the IDF command.  The IDF is being careful not to publically show disunity or critisize the government, but it is becoming clear that the government is not being as focused as it should be.  The IDF ground troops are in a situation that grows more dangerous each day because they are remaining fairly stationary, neither moving forward nor pulling back.  This makes it easier for Hamas to target them.  “The army cannot go on like this forever,” former National Security Council head, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Giora Eiland, said. “We need to reach a decision: Either reach a cease-fire in two to three days, or start a big military operation that will take at least two weeks. We’ve been beating around the bush for a week, and we need to make a decision now.”

IDF Chief Gabi Ashkenazi is constantly pushing battalion commanders to change positions and carry out targeted attacks to prevent the troops from becoming targets. IDF troops patrolling around the Jabalya refugee camp are facing militants using tactics similar to those used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.  Meanwhile, reservists called up after the operation began have completed training in an army base close to Gaza and are awaiting orders, but they cannot be held on standby forever.
Please pray that the government leaders and the IDF leaders to be in unity and to make wise decisions that will bring victory and the restoration of peace

At the frontlines   –  Israel    50 Rockets struck Israeli towns on Saturday  –  causing injuries in Ashkelon   –  Rockets are still coming out of Gaza on Sunday  –  20 so far

                            –  Gaza    we are now hearing reports that Israeli troops are moving into towards the centre of Gaza City.  This means urban warfare that will be very dangerous for the soldiers and will be fighting at very close quarters and many buildings have been booby-trapped and there are probably mines set to catch the soldiers when they come in.

On the diplomatic front,  ( ha Aretz News) the IDF was caught off guard by the UN’s decision to call for a cease-fire in Gaza. Only hours before the decision was announced in New York, an army official in Israel covering international developments said the IDF still had time before diplomatic pressure curbed its scope of operations.  The UN’s decision is not binding, but it indicates the beginning of the end of the operation, especially with the swearing in of U.S. president-elect Barack Obama in nine days.

Many Palestinians believe an Israeli victory is within reach, but this would require an assertive decision by Israel to topple Hamas. If the IDF were to take control of symbolic locations in the Gaza Strip, this would end Hamas’ sovereignty over the coastal territory. Such real estate includes the Palestinian Presidential Palace, the Islamic University and the Sariya, a complex of buildings that Gaza’s rulers have used as their headquarters over the past century. All are located in the affluent Rimal neighborhood in western Gaza city. The IDF’s operations have so far focused on the city’s eastern side.

In the meantime, Hamas has been doing its best to hide its losses: Official statements issued by Hamas claim that the Islamic group has not suffered any casualties. However, the Palestinian Authority and the IDF believe some 300 members of the organization’s military wing have been killed. Egypt believes the figure is even higher.   But regardless of its losses, the military wing’s objective remains survival and continuing the rocket fire on Israel.

Gilad Shalit   Until now Gilad Shalit, the young Israeli soldier who was kidnapped by Hamas 3 years has been unharmed.   Today Hamas has begun to make threatening statements about Gilads safety  –  that he is no longer a valuable bargaining chip and they dont care what happens to him.   We need to pray that the IDF will find him and bring him home unharmed

The UN Cease-fire Proposal     Both sides have so far ignored the UN Cease-fire.  Hamas rejected it outright and Israel says that it is unworkable as the text of the cease-fire proposal did not mention several key issues that are imperative to meet Israel’s demand for an international peace-keeping force to ensure that Hamas can not re-arm.  The real problem with the UN is that the Muslim Arab nations manipulate the UN Security Council in their favour.

BREAKING NEWS   IDF soldiers come under fire at Syria border fence.  A number of Israel Defense Forces soldiers came under cross-border fire on Sunday while working on the fence between Israel and Syria.  There were no casualties in the incident, but the bullets struck a few vehicles on site.  “In the afternoon, there were a number of bullets fired from Syria at an Israeli army force doing engineering work near the fence,” an army spokesman said. “No one was hurt but a vehicle was damaged. Forces in the field are examining the incident and a complaint was sent to UNDOF which sent a team there. The circumstances of the incident are still unclear.”  The IDF said that it did not appear as though the Syrian army was not involved in the incident. More likely, it said, Palestinian militants fired the shots to protest Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip and to cause tensions on a second front.  Please pray that the northern border remains quiet and under control

Correction:  In Friday’s Carmel Alert I wrote that Associated Press and Reuters news agencies are owned by the Saudis.  This is information that I was given many years ago and have believed it ever since.  However I have tried to find firm evidence to back up those claims and as yet have not been able to.  Does anyone have solid information, one way or the other ?
